The Huguenot Bell.

The Huguenot Bell is a memorial to a group of French Protestants who were expelled from their own country in the late seventeenth century. They found religious tolerance in Ireland, but were unable to find a church in which they could worship in their native tongue. In 1666 they were given the use of the Lady Chapel in this cathedral, and it became known as L’Église Française de Saint Patrick. The Huguenots benefited from the religious tolerance they found in this country, and were able to continue in a form of worship which suited their own beliefs. Here at Saint Patrick's we are striving towards ecumenism, that is, the unity of Christians world-wide. We believe that it is God’s wish for all Christians to worship as one, united in our common goal to bring those with no understanding of God into faith with the living God that is Jesus Christ.
